The New Braunfels Park and Recreation Department is sponsoring its third annual “Soul Searching … Night Ramblings at the Comal Cemetery” Oct. 18-19. Come and experience the historic Comal Cemetery in a unique fashion with a guided evening tour.
Established in 1868, the Comal Cemetery is the burial ground for some of New Braunfels’ founders and notable citizens. Come and hear the stories of these illustrious souls told by actors as living history portrayals. The setting is somber but not meant to be scary.
This year’s tour will feature the lives of 18 orphans who were raised by New Braunfels pioneers, a Rev. Ervendberg and his wife, after the childrens’ parents died in an epidemic.
Tours start at 6:30 p.m. both nights. The last tour begins at 9:30 p.m. Each participant will be given a flashlight to help see in the dark. A full moon both nights will help illuminate the cemetery.
An early tour (5:30 p.m.) is for individuals that need assistance; they will be driven in a six-passenger golf cart. The 5:30 version is not a walking tour.
Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased by calling the Parks and Recreation Department at (830) 221-4350.
